Earth while fashion -6 week challenge

  Six Week Fashion Challenge

It has been so long since I wrote a blog the Earthwhile Fashion page has emigrated to somewhere in the cyber universe and can't seem to access it. So here goes my first blog in sometime are my ramblings on The 6 item challenge organised by labour behind the label as a drive to raise support for ethical fashion.

The challenge encourages people like myself who really love fashion to fast from it.
And it is actually more difficult than it sounds!

The rules:
  • Wear only the 6 items of clothing for six weeks
  • You have unlimited access to accessories, shoes and underwear.
  • May use gym gear for exercising.
  • Coats are not included.

My fashion fast from fast fashion.

6 weeks ago on Ash Wednesday I chose 6 items of clothing from my wardrobe and wore only those items for 6 weeks. Below are the pieces. I chose garments that would mix and match well,  dress up for a night out or down during the day and work well with accessories.
L-R
1 Black cape sleeve top
2 Black jumper dress
3 Printed Kimono top
2nd Row
4 Dark high waist denim jeans
5 Denim Shirt Dress
6 Black narrow leg high waist denim jeans

I am usually a rather cold person so having more clothes for layering would have been nice. Thank goodness for thermals. Fashion has always been large part of my life and livelihood so this challenge was seriously out of my comfort zone. Besides wearing gym gear for more often than going to the gym I stuck to the challenge. I got creative with the styling for example wore the sweater as skirt one evening with the black top and it looked like a cool black dress. Overall I wore the denim dress the most.

Here is what I realised from the 6 week challenge:

1 How much I LOVE clothes and what an integral part of my life they are.

2 A newfound heighten awareness of clothes, their origin and how they are discarded.

3 A good key piece can be styled and worn loads.

I wear about 20% of my wardrobe.

5 The fashion industry is balls

The latter I say as someone who has worked in the industry for most of her adult life.

That's all for now folks I shall post more on this soon.
