Spring Summer
Fashion Trends 2013 Part 2
Shorts are
an integral part of Spring Summer fashion. Not the most forgiving of garments but there are ways to wear them to suit all body shapes. As with all apparel it is about finding the fit and shape that is right for you.
Bermudas:
Bermuda shorts belted down the SS 13 catwalks particularly in New York. These sophisticated and preppy key basics will feature in trends over the forthcoming seasons. If like me you don't like to wear short shorts these (or a mid thigh length) are a great alternative.
In the forties knee length trousers became part of the uniform for the English army in Bermuda. Hence the name.
How to wear Bermudas
Longer style shorts like Bermudas suit most shapes they are flattering and slimming to curves and work especially well on pear, triangle, inverted triangle and rectangular shapes.- Go for a slim cut (soft) tailored leg
- Should skim thighs with slight flare
- For a preppy look add plimsolls t shirt and hat
- Add a dressy top blazer heels and clutch for evening look
- wear with wedges and a long lined top for a smart sophisticated summer look (right)
Short shorts:
Short shorts look best on youthful long limbs. Daisy dukes are the go to look for this ilk. These cropped frayed denim cut offs are cool, sexy and highly versatile.
So called after Daisy from the 70s show the Dukes of Hazard (pictured right) they have become increasingly popular past couple of years and Jean shorts AKA Jorts will remain fashionable for the foreseeable future.
How to shop for denim shorts
Ensure the waist band is high enough so wont dip when sit. Unless pre shrunk denim will stretch, so a snug fit is best. If too big or too small they will end up wedged (not a good look). Going a size bigger is fine as long as they hang evenly and don’t gather when belted. Denim shorts are so versatile they can be worn with almost any trend or look, how you style them is up to you, below are a few style guide suggestions for SS13.
How to wear denim shorts
Wear with
- Tights, Brogues
- Cowgirl ankle boots
- Wedges (these elongate legs)
- Pretty shirts and long line blazers.
- oversize slogan tee shirts or sweaters
- Braces/suspenders
- Western style blouse knotted for the daisy duke look.
Do not wear
- With cleavage and mid drift exposed
- knee high boots
- with fishnet tights
- on formal occasions
- if your legs wobble when you move
- if you are short and have any weight on.
( or all of the above simultaneously)

Short style suiting
A throw
back to the 90’s, I love this look, it ticks all the boxes of classy stylish and
versatile. Shorts and a matching blazer are a must for the fashion conscience leggy lady. Please note, unless work in the fashion industry short suiting is not considered professional attire.
